SpaceX Pumps $2B into xAI to Power AI Race

In a major strategic move, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has committed $2 billion to his artificial intelligence startup xAI, aiming to supercharge its growth and keep pace with industry leader OpenAI. According to investors familiar with the deal, this investment marks SpaceX’s first known stake in xAI and one of its largest ventures into another company.

This funding is part of xAI’s larger $5 billion equity round announced last month by Morgan Stanley. Musk has consistently woven his business ventures together to bolster the AI venture, most notably merging xAI with his social media platform X earlier this year. That merger valued the combined entity at $113 billion, with the AI lab powering Grok, which Musk has dubbed the smartest AI in the world.

Grok currently powers customer support for SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service and was recently upgraded to Grok 4. Musk also revealed plans to integrate the chatbot into humanoid robots like Tesla’s Optimus fleet. By deepening collaboration between SpaceX and xAI, Musk is positioning his empire at the forefront of AI innovation.

Looking ahead, Musk’s representatives hint at more partnerships between SpaceX and xAI, underscoring a long-term vision to fuse space technology with advanced artificial intelligence.
