Egyptian Director Ahmed Alaa’s BRICS Film Collaboration Vision

At the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held July 6-7, 2025, CGTN invited Gen Z creators from across the BRICS bloc to share their perspectives on the cooperation framework.

Among them was Egyptian filmmaker Ahmed Alaa, who sees the BRICS mechanism as a launchpad for a new wave of cross-border cinema. With peers from India, the Chinese mainland, Brazil and beyond, he hopes to produce innovative, cross-cultural films that connect diverse audiences.

Looking beyond individual projects, Ahmed advocates for a dedicated BRICS cultural and academic exchange body—an organization that would empower emerging creatives to collaborate on joint productions, workshops and festivals across member countries.

For many young creators, this vision could redefine global storytelling, harnessing the collective power of BRICS nations to bridge cultures and spark new conversations through film.
