Typhoon Danas Spurs Level-IV Flood Alert in Zhejiang and Fujian

As Typhoon Danas churns across the western Pacific, the Chinese mainland's Ministry of Water Resources on Monday activated a Level-IV flood emergency response in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.

Danas, the fourth typhoon of the year according to the Chinese mainland's meteorological authorities, made landfall on the island of Taiwan late Sunday. After pushing across the island overnight, it returned to the sea by early Monday.

Forecasters predict Danas will make a second landfall between Taizhou in Zhejiang and Ningde in Fujian between Tuesday afternoon and evening. From Monday through Thursday, parts of southeastern Zhejiang, Fujian's eastern coast, and central-eastern Jiangxi Province could see heavy to torrential downpours.

Authorities warn that rivers including the Qiantang in Zhejiang may rise significantly, with some smaller tributaries expected to exceed warning levels. Hilly areas face a high risk of sudden mountain torrents.

The ministry is guiding local water authorities on targeted preparations and has dispatched an expert team to Zhejiang to support flood control efforts. In the Chinese mainland's four-tier emergency system, Level IV alerts communities to take precautionary measures and prepare for escalating conditions.

Local authorities are urging residents to monitor the latest updates and follow safety guidelines as the storm progresses.
