Under the tropical skies of Rio de Janeiro, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit, the Chinese premier, Li Qiang, sat down with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss a shared vision for sustainable growth and global cooperation.
Central to their talks was the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, a flagship project of the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Li highlighted China's readiness to work with Ethiopia to promote sustainable development of the railway and expand bilateral trade and investment.
Both leaders underscored the importance of true multilateralism. Li noted that China is willing to partner with Ethiopia and other stakeholders to practice genuine collaboration, firmly safeguard economic globalization and uphold free trade principles at a time of rising protectionism.
The meeting reflects a broader push by both nations to deepen economic ties and set a global example on how countries and regions can work together for mutual benefit. As Li Qiang arrived in Rio on Saturday to attend the summit, these commitments signal fresh momentum for trade and infrastructure cooperation across continents.
