In a pivotal meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister and Political Bureau member of the CPC Central Committee, sat down with European Council President Antonio Costa to chart a course for global steadiness. Against a backdrop of mounting uncertainty, Wang Yi underscored the role of the Chinese mainland and the European Union as twin pillars in a multipolar world.
“Whether Europe faces favorable or challenging conditions, the Chinese mainland firmly supports European integration,” Wang stressed. He praised the EU’s push for strategic autonomy and its ambition to play a more active role on the world stage.
Wang Yi didn’t mince words about the threats to the international order. “Unilateralism and bullying are severely undermining global stability,” he warned. In contrast, he said, the Chinese mainland and the EU – as two major powers and economic giants – can anchor steady progress.
He offered a three-point vision: uphold dialogue and cooperation to prevent bloc confrontations, embrace openness and mutual benefit to keep globalization alive, and champion multilateralism to avoid chaos. “If we stand together, we can rewrite the script for a more stable, inclusive world,” Wang said.
As global tensions simmer, Wang called for deeper solidarity and coordination. Respect for core interests, mutual trust-building, and shared success, he argued, are the ingredients for a resilient partnership – one that delivers real-world benefits well beyond Brussels.
