García’s Header Sends Real Madrid to Club World Cup Quarters

Miami, FL – Gonzalo García's decisive header in the 54th minute propelled Real Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Juventus in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday. The 21-year-old forward scored his third goal in four matches in the first-ever 32-team edition of the competition.

The match started at a high pace, but both sides went into the break scoreless. Early chances included Randal Kolo Muani's effort for Juventus and Federico Valverde's shot that was denied by Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

García finally broke the deadlock with a well-placed header from a pinpoint cross, extending his tournament tally and marking a goal contribution in every game so far. Coach Xabi Alonso then introduced Kylian Mbappe in the 68th minute, giving the French star his Club World Cup debut after recovering from illness.

Despite Real Madrid pressing for a second goal, Juventus keeper Di Gregorio produced a remarkable 10 saves to keep the match close. When the final whistle blew, the Spanish giants had sealed their spot in the quarterfinals.

Up next, Real Madrid will face Germany's Borussia Dortmund, who edged Mexico's Monterrey 2-1 in Atlanta. With momentum on their side, Alonso's side looks to stay on course in this historic tournament.
