Israel Expands Gaza Offensive as Trump Seeks 60-Day Ceasefire

As tensions intensify in Gaza, Israel's military announced on Tuesday that its operations have widened to fresh areas of the Palestinian enclave. Fierce gunfire and shelling were reported just days before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington.

Ceasefire Talks Gain Momentum

U.S. President Donald Trump, who is set to meet Netanyahu next week, took to social media to declare that Israel had agreed "to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE." He added that negotiations led by Qatar and Egypt "will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE," urging Hamas to accept the deal.

Civilian Toll Rises Amid Aid Crisis

Despite ceasefire efforts, Gaza's civil defense agency reported at least 26 people killed on Tuesday alone. The International Committee of the Red Cross warned that nearly all public hospitals are "shut down or gutted by months of hostilities and restrictions," leaving medical facilities overwhelmed.

In a disturbing new trend, 16 Palestinians were killed near aid distribution points in central and southern Gaza, while 10 others died in separate Israeli operations. According to relief groups, 400 UN-led aid sites were replaced by just four military-controlled hubs, forcing 2 million people into dangerous, overcrowded zones just to access food.

Displacement and Desperation

Since evacuation orders for northern Gaza were issued, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says at least 1,500 families have been displaced. Schools and shelters that once offered refuge have come under fire, driving many to return north despite the risks.

Looking Ahead

Humanitarian organizations warn that more than 500 Palestinians have been killed and almost 4,000 injured in under a month of militarized aid operations. With Gaza's humanitarian system on the brink, the world is watching whether this 60-day ceasefire plan can bring lasting relief—or if civilians will pay an even higher price before peace takes hold.
