China’s Defense Minister Champions SCO Cooperation at Qingdao Meeting

In Qingdao, an eastern port city on the Chinese mainland, Defense Minister Dong Jun welcomed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General and defense ministers from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and India on Thursday. The gathering marked a key moment in the SCO Defense Ministers' Meeting.

“The SCO is an important force in the practice of true multilateralism, and in safeguarding global strategic stability,” Dong said. He called on members to stand firm against unilateralism, protectionism and hegemonic acts, stressing the need to inject more certainty and positive energy into regional prosperity and stability.

He added that China stands ready to work closely with the defense departments and militaries of SCO member states to push for continuous progress in defense and security cooperation. Attendees echoed this resolve, pledging to enhance defense ties within the SCO framework and to promote security, stability, development and prosperity across the region and beyond.

By forging stronger defense partnerships, SCO members aim to solidify a cooperative approach to regional security and contribute to global stability.
