China Urges Calm Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Speaking on Monday, Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, urged the international community to intensify efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

He pointed out that the Persian Gulf and its adjacent waters serve as vital international passages for goods and energy trade, stressing that security and stability in the region align with the shared interests of nations worldwide.

Guo's remarks responded to reports that the Iranian parliament voted in favor of closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a decision that now awaits final approval from the Supreme National Security Council.

The vote came after the United States conducted airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites, elevating concerns over a broader conflict.

Closing the strait could halt shipments of energy and goods, underscoring the global stakes of any escalation. China's call for calm highlights the urgent need for diplomatic solutions to maintain stability in this critical corridor.
