More than 740 Chinese nationals were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara border checkpoint by midday Friday, the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan confirmed.
The embassy officially launched its assistance program on Tuesday, offering guidance and support for those entering Azerbaijan from Iran or transiting through Baku en route to the Chinese mainland.
With help from an association of overseas Chinese in Azerbaijan, evacuees were transported by bus to local hotels in Baku or booked direct flights back to the Chinese mainland.
As more nationals continue to arrive at the Astara crossing from Iran, the embassy's on-site task force remains on standby to provide essential assistance, ensuring safe and swift repatriation.
