Hong Kong SAR Returns to Top 3 in IMD’s 2025 Competitiveness Ranking

Under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is charting a path to a brighter future, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.

Hong Kong SAR climbed two spots to rank third in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2025 published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). This marks its return to the top three for the first time since 2019, signaling renewed global confidence in its strengths.

"Hong Kong remains one of the world's freest economies and most competitive regions," Guo said at a regular press briefing. He highlighted the SAR's growing appeal as an international financial centre, drawing in more foreign companies and investors.

Data from the first half of the year show the Hong Kong Stock Exchange led worldwide fundraising with US$14 billion, and overseas visitor arrivals rose by 18 percent in the first five months. Meanwhile, several major international firms have redomiciled to the SAR, a clear vote of confidence from the global community.

As Hong Kong SAR accelerates its high-quality development under a stable environment, young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and world-minded travellers can expect even more opportunities in finance, innovation, and cultural exchange in the years ahead.
