At the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the Chinese mainland’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, Chen Xu, delivered a rallying call for advancing human rights through security, development and cooperation.
Chen stressed that in a world facing heightened turbulence and transformation, the path to human rights for all is complex and long-term. He urged UN mechanisms to uphold universality, impartiality, objectivity, non-politicization and non-selectivity to safeguard their credibility.
Highlighting the United Nations’ 80th anniversary, Chen called on all parties to reaffirm their commitment to the UN Charter’s purposes and principles, reinforcing the organization’s authority and standing on the global stage.
Emphasizing that there is no universal model for human rights development, Chen noted that no country should impose its own approach on others. He underscored the need for genuine multilateralism and respect for the diversity of world civilizations.
Marking the first International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations on June 10, Chen encouraged nations to promote human rights through security, development and cooperation, ensuring the healthy growth of the global human rights cause.
The 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council opened on June 16 and runs through July 9 in Geneva.
