At a commemorative meeting in the Great Hall of the People, President Xi Jinping called for embracing the enterprising spirit and dedication of veteran leader Chen Yun to build a strong country.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, spoke on Friday at the event marking the 120th anniversary of Chen’s birth.
Born in 1905 and a Party member since 1925, Chen Yun was recognized as a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, and a founding figure of the country’s socialist economy. He played a key role in both the first generation of central collective leadership with Mao Zedong at its core and the second generation led by Deng Xiaoping, according to Xi.
