On Sunday, Los Angeles saw tensions escalate as thousands of residents took to the streets in response to President Donald Trump’s unprecedented deployment of the National Guard.
It was the third day of demonstrations against the administration’s immigration crackdown, with around 300 federal troops arriving in the region, sparking anger and fear among protesters.
National Guard soldiers, alongside agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, repeatedly deployed tear gas and smoke grenades to break up the crowds.
An on-the-ground stringer captured chaotic scenes—thick clouds of gas drifting through palm-lined avenues, protesters retreating and regrouping, and clashes that left some demonstrators and journalists injured.
For many, the federal troop presence intensified the standoff, turning what began as a peaceful rally into a tense urban showdown.
The unrest in LA highlights the delicate balance between security and civil liberties—a challenge that resonates globally among young activists, tech enthusiasts, and digital nomads alike.
