China Unveils Record-Breaking Offshore Oil Platform in the Bohai Sea

In a landmark feat of offshore engineering, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has successfully completed the float-over installation of the central processing platform for Phase I of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield in the Bohai Sea. At 22.8 meters tall and weighing over 20,000 tonnes, this three-deck, eight-legged structure now holds the title of the largest and heaviest oil and gas platform in the region.

Precision and Technology at Sea

Equipped with cutting-edge BeiDou positioning systems and AI-driven anti-collision radar, the main operation vessel guided the platform into place with millimeter-level precision. A fleet of coordinated tugboats ensured a flawless single-attempt installation under complex sea conditions, setting new records for float-over operations in the Bohai Sea.

Kenli 10-2 Field Highlights

Located 245 kilometers off Tianjin in waters about 20 meters deep, the Kenli 10-2 oilfield is the largest lithologic discovery in China's offshore territory, with proven reserves surpassing 100 million tonnes. This achievement adds to China's growing portfolio of offshore energy projects, with 50 float-over installations completed to date, a maximum float-over capacity of 32,000 tonnes, and a cumulative weight exceeding 600,000 tonnes.
