Activist Aid Ship Nears Gaza After Reaching Egyptian Coast

The Madleen, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, is now sailing off the Egyptian coast, carrying 12 activists including Greta Thunberg and essential relief supplies bound for Gaza, organizers say.

Departing Sicily just days ago, the ship loaded with food, medicine, and clean water challenges the longstanding naval blockade on Gaza. German human rights activist Yasemin Acar confirmed the vessel's safe entry into Egyptian waters.

European parliament member Rima Hassan on board urged world leaders to guarantee safe passage for the convoy. The coalition remains in contact with international legal and human rights bodies, warning that any interception could breach international humanitarian law.

Earlier in its voyage, the Madleen diverted near Crete to rescue four Sudanese migrants fleeing possible forced return to Libya. They were later transferred to an EU Frontex vessel.

The mission echoes past flotilla efforts—from the deadly 2010 Mavi Marmara raid to a drone strike on the Conscience in May. Organizers emphasize that over two million Gaza residents now face famine under the blockade.

As the Madleen approaches Gaza's shores, the world watches to see if it can pierce the blockade or become entangled in a renewed humanitarian standoff.
