Early Sunday morning, a bridge in Russia's Kursk region collapsed under a passing freight train in the Zheleznogorsk district. The structure gave way at the 48-kilometer mark of the Trosna-Kalinovka highway, sending train cars onto the road below.
Alexander Khinshtein, the region's acting governor, reported that part of the train fell through the damaged span, with the locomotive catching fire. Emergency services rushed to the scene to contain the blaze and secure the area.
One locomotive driver suffered injuries and is receiving medical care, the governor said. Emergency crews remain on site as officials investigate what caused the dramatic infrastructure failure.
