In a dramatic finale at Old Trafford, Manchester United claimed a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League season. The win leaves United in 15th place\u00151ussels just three places above the relegation zone and their lowest finish in the modern era.
Both goals came in the second half: Amad Diallo opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 76th minute, and Christian Eriksen sealed the win with a penalty in the 87th.
The result ended United's eight-game winless streak but did little to erase the memories of a season full of struggles on and off the pitch.
"I want to apologize for this season. I know you are really disappointed with me and really disappointed with the team," said coach Ruben Amorim. "We are very grateful for your support during the season, and I know it was really hard in many games."
Looking ahead, Amorim urged unity: "Now we have to make a choice: either stay stuck in the past because this season is over, or stick together and move forward."
Meanwhile, the result was a bitter pill for Aston Villa, who finish 6th and miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification. "The TV is clear with the move but of course we have to accept it," said Villa manager Unai Emery of Morgan Rogers' disallowed goal. "It was a mistake. A big mistake."
As the curtain falls on 2024-25, the Premier League's Champions League spots go to Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United, joined by UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur.
