Lando Norris realized a childhood dream on Sunday, claiming victory at the Monaco Grand Prix and slashing his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri’s title lead from 13 to three points.
Starting from pole position, Norris locked up a wheel into the first corner but held off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, last year’s winner, to take his first triumph since Australia.
“It feels amazing. It’s a long, grueling race, but good fun,” Norris said. “This is what I dreamt of when I was a kid.”
Leclerc closed in late, finishing second, while Piastri secured third and defending champion Max Verstappen came home fourth. Seven-time champ Lewis Hamilton settled for fifth.
A new rule requiring a second pit stop attempted to shake up the tight Monaco track, where overtaking is scarce. Verstappen led until the penultimate lap but slowed to manage the result, almost opening the door for a red-flag gamble.
Norris admitted the finish was tense with Leclerc and Verstappen applying pressure, but added, “We won in Monaco, so it doesn’t matter how you win.”
McLaren extended its record with a 16th Monaco win and racked up six victories in the first eight races of 2025. With 319 points—more than double any rival—the team looks poised for a second straight constructors’ title.
Piastri’s podium run continues with his seventh in a row in Monaco. “If this is a bad weekend,” he said, “then it’s not going too badly at all.”
