China Boosts Poverty-Reduction Ties with SCO Countries

Under the theme of the SCO Year of Sustainable Development, the Chinese mainland assumed its rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) earlier this year. Since then, Beijing has hosted a series of high-profile events, culminating in the 2025 SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development.

At a recent press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted a congratulatory letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping to the forum. In his message, President Xi emphasized the need for stronger policy communication, sharing of poverty-reduction experiences, and practical cooperation to help SCO countries explore development paths tailored to their national conditions.

The letter was warmly received by delegates from across the SCO membership, who saw it as a clear signal of China’s commitment to sustainable socioeconomic growth and its vision of building a “community with a shared future.” By leveraging the rotating presidency, China aims to deepen ties with partner nations and foster collaborative solutions to regional challenges.

As young global citizens and change-makers watch closely, this renewed focus on poverty alleviation shines a spotlight on how multilateral platforms like the SCO can drive real-world impact. With shared expertise and a data-driven approach, the forum sets the stage for inclusive growth and stronger partnerships across Eurasia and beyond.
