The World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, turned into a breakthrough moment for China's relay squads as three teams punched their tickets to Tokyo 2025. With national and season-best marks, these athletes showcased depth and determination ahead of next year's World Athletics Championships.
In the 4x400m, Liang Baotang, Mo Jiadie, Zhang Qining, and Liu Yinglan electrified fans by setting a new national record of 3:13.39. Liang burst out in 44.91 seconds on the opening leg, with Mo and Zhang staying within striking distance of Germany, Spain, and Jamaica. In the anchor, Liu outleaned Jamaica's Roneisha McGregor to snatch third place and seal qualification.
The women's 4x100m squad also secured their spot after a last-minute lineup change. Following Liang Xiaojing's race-day injury, newcomer Zhu Junying teamed up with Chen Yujie, Li Yuting, and Ge Manqi. Their flawless exchanges powered a season-best 43.03 finish, earning them the title and a direct entry to Tokyo.
On the men's 4x100m front, a refreshed quartet of Shi Junhao, He Jinxian, Zeng Keli, and Wang Shengjie sprinted to a season-best 38.03 seconds. Their unity and speed under pressure booked yet another lane for China on the world stage.
With these three relay teams now Tokyo-bound, China's sprint program is firing on all cylinders. As the countdown to Tokyo 2025 begins, these athletes are ready to chase new milestones and bring home glory.
