In Geneva this Friday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter and Vice President Guy Parmelin to discuss strengthening free trade ties and open markets between the two economies.
With global uncertainty on the rise, He Lifeng emphasized that China and Switzerland should boost communication, face challenges together, and safeguard the principles of free trade and open markets. He said the goal is to deliver substantive progress on upgrading the Sino-Swiss free trade agreement at the earliest opportunity, linking the effort to wider aims of global peace, stability and economic development.
President Keller-Sutter noted that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations provides an ideal moment to deepen cooperation. Ideas on the table include co-hosting a Switzerland-China Year of Culture and Tourism and expanding exchanges across multiple sectors to elevate bilateral ties.
Vice President Parmelin highlighted Switzerland's commitment to multilateralism and open trade, adding that an upgraded FTA will benefit businesses and residents in both markets while reinforcing global industrial and supply chains.
As countries navigate shifting trade landscapes, the Sino-Swiss dialogue underscores a shared belief in open markets as a foundation for innovation, economic resilience and cross-border cultural exchange.
