Europe’s Solar Report: China Powers Half of 2024 PV Growth

Picture this: More than half (55%) of the world's new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in 2024 was installed in China, marking a new benchmark for renewable energy expansion.

According to a report by SolarPower Europe presented at the 2025 Intersolar Europe exhibition, the Chinese mainland added 329 gigawatts of solar capacity last year, accounting for around half of both newly added and total global PV capacity.

European analysts hailed the milestone as a "major contribution" to the world's carbon reduction goals, highlighting how large-scale deployment in the Chinese mainland could turbocharge efforts to curb climate change.

As the solar sector heats up, this data-driven leap sets the stage for a global green energy race—pushing markets and policymakers across G20 nations to reimagine their own clean power strategies.
