Hangzhou City recently became the epicenter of the animation world as the 20th China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF) celebrated its Golden Monkey King Awards. Dubbed the \"highest honor in Chinese animation,\" the event recognized 34 outstanding animated works from around the globe.
Held in the vibrant Zhejiang Province, the five-day festival, themed \"The Prime of Chinese Animation,\" attracted over 2,100 enterprises and institutions from more than 50 countries and regions. This year's CICAF showcased an impressive collection of over 140,000 animated works, both domestic and international.
The Golden Monkey King Awards, hosted by China Media Group, featured three main categories: the General Awards, the Promising Awards, and the Animation Featuring Revolutionary Traditions Awards. Out of 765 original submissions from 17 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, 88 pieces made it to the final evaluation round.
Highlighting the event, \"Stories of Dunhuang\" by CCTV Animation Group captured the grandeur of the ancient city through vibrant animation, earning the Gold Prize for General Award-Animated Series. Other notable winners include \"Chang An\" for the Gold Prize in General Award-Animated Feature Film, and \"Seasons\" which took home the Gold Prize for General Award-Animated Short Film.
Additionally, \"Mountains of the Wind Glow\" was awarded the Gold Prize for General Award-Comics, while \"Team of the Summit\" received the Special Prize for Animation Featuring Revolutionary Traditions. The Promising Awards honored twelve animated shorts and six comics, showcasing emerging talent in the animation industry.
The 20th CICAF not only celebrated established animators but also provided a platform for new voices to emerge, reinforcing Hangzhou's position as a key player in the global animation landscape.
