Gen Z in Moscow: Tasting Food and Culture

In 2025, as the world marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War, CGTN launched a Gen Z cultural exchange series to bring China and Russia closer.

CGTN invited Gen Z students from China and Russia to swap their must-do checklists, immersing themselves in everyday life abroad. Chinese student Lu Ying, studying at Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, took on three quintessential Moscow experiences:

  • Sampling Russian cottage cheese pancakes: Lu Ying discovered a creamy treat that reminded her of her home snack, "fried milk," praising its unique texture.
  • Strolling through Gorky Park: From riverside paths to local art installations, she found a lively urban oasis perfect for both relaxation and discovery.
  • Touring the Lenin Library: A deep dive into history and literature, the library's grand halls offered a window into Russia's rich cultural heritage.

By the end of her day, Lu had not only adapted but also grown fond of life in Moscow. She sees China and Russia as neighbors and partners and hopes more Gen Z youth will join in this spirit of exchange, building bridges through shared experiences and authentic connections.
