China, Brazil Pledge BRICS Partnership to Address Global Challenges

In Brasilia on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the president of Brazil, signaling a deepening partnership between two major developing nations. Wang highlighted China’s commitment to working with Brazil to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and address shared global challenges.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underscored BRICS’ role as the Global South’s "first echelon". He called on BRICS members to join forces in defending multilateral principles and supporting peace and development efforts worldwide.

Amorim praised China’s firm response to U.S. "reciprocal tariffs", noting it has earned respect among Global South nations facing unilateral protectionism. He urged BRICS to champion multilateralism and reinforce the global trading system against trade barriers.

The two sides also exchanged perspectives on the Ukraine crisis and held strategic talks on other hotspots, including the Middle East situation and the Iranian nuclear issue, reflecting a broad alignment on international security discussions.
