Global Media Tour Explores Shandong’s 2,500-Year Qilu Heritage

A group of more than 50 journalists from the Chinese mainland and around the world set out on April 25 for "China Up Close – Shandong Tour", organized by China Media Group. Over the next week, they delved into Qilu culture’s 2,500-year legacy as they traveled across Shandong’s key cities.

First stop: Jining, the birthplace of Confucius. There, media guests walked through the Kong Family Mansion and the tranquil landscapes of the Confucius Temple. Local historians shared how the philosopher’s teachings still resonate in today’s cultural and education sectors.

Next, the maritime metropolis of Qingdao showcased a blend of colonial heritage and modern industry. Journalists explored historic German-built architecture along the waterfront, then visited pioneering green-tech facilities in the city’s high-tech zone, where startups are driving sustainable solutions.

In coastal Yantai, the final leg of the tour, CGTN reporter Liu Jiaxin led a roundtable with delegates from Slovenia, Slovakia, Cambodia and South Africa. The discussion centered on cultural exchange, creative collaboration and building global friendships through media storytelling.

By highlighting Shandong’s cultural richness and innovation, the tour offered a fresh look at how tradition and technology co-exist. Participants left with new insights into this dynamic region, ready to share its stories with audiences worldwide.
