Iran’s Port Blast Death Toll Rises to 28

A massive explosion ripped through Shahid Rajaee Port, Iran's largest commercial gateway, on Saturday, claiming 28 lives and injuring more than 1,000, according to Red Crescent chief Pirhossein Koolivand.

"Unfortunately, 28 people have so far died," Koolivand said, noting that many of the injured were transferred to Tehran for further treatment. Eyewitnesses describe scenes of chaos as emergency teams raced to contain fires and evacuate workers.

Iran's Defense Ministry has clarified there was no military cargo at the site. Spokesperson Reza Talaei-Nik told state television, "There has been no imported or exported cargo for military fuel or military use in the area of the fire incident and Shahid Rajaee Port."

The blast highlights challenges facing major trade hubs worldwide, where safety protocols must match the scale of operations. As investigations continue, global traders are watching closely to understand the impact on supply chains in the region.
