Olympian Zhou Jihong Elected President of Chinese Swimming Association

Zhou Jihong was elected president of the Chinese Swimming Association (CSA) on Tuesday at its Sixth Congress of Members in Beijing. With a storied career culminating in women’s 10-meter platform gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Zhou now transitions from the board to the boardroom.

Joining her leadership team is vice president and secretary-general Huang Wei, alongside seven other vice presidents. Together they will steer the CSA toward its ambitious strategic goal: building China into a global sports power by 2035 through investments across competitive sports, youth development, and nationwide fitness initiatives.

Looking ahead, President Zhou has pledged to:

  • Elevate China’s presence on international podiums
  • Expand youth swimming programs to cultivate the next generation
  • Promote fitness across communities to foster a healthy lifestyle

"Our mission is clear," Zhou said during her acceptance remarks. "We will harness the spirit that propelled our athletes to Olympic glory and channel it into every pool, every campus, and every community."

As the new era of Chinese swimming begins, stakeholders across sports federations, schools, and local clubs will play a crucial role in turning this vision into reality. For young swimmers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, this leadership shake-up signals a dynamic chapter in the story of a rising global sports power.
