Liverpool Close in on Record-Equaling 20th Title After Leicester Triumph

Liverpool edged closer to a record-equaling 20th English title after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Leicester City on Sunday. Substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold struck in the 76th minute at the King Power Stadium, restoring a 13-point lead with five games to play.

Across the pitch, Arsenal kept their slender hopes alive with a 4-0 romp at 10-man Ipswich Town, meaning Liverpool will have to wait on Wednesday's clash between Arsenal and Crystal Palace to secure the crown.

Leicester's defeat confirmed their relegation back to the Championship after just one season, extending their unfortunate record to 13 top-flight drops.

Manager Arne Slot praised his squad's resilience: "We just keep going, mentally we're really strong. They enjoy playing football and it helps when you are playing for something special. Today Alexander-Arnold knows when it matters most he can just bring a bit more, which is something all the top, top players have."

Slot noted that Liverpool could clinch the title even if Arsenal avoid defeat at Crystal Palace – by beating Tottenham Hotspur at home next Sunday. "We will focus on Tottenham and looking forward again to a home game and I think the stadium will be full," he said, eyeing the chance to become the first Dutch manager to win the English title.

With Liverpool on 79 points and Arsenal on 66, the top two focus on their respective challenges: the Reds on league history, and Arsenal on an upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Other key results from the weekend:

  • Chelsea 2-1 Fulham
  • Arsenal 4-0 Ipswich Town
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Manchester United
