AG600 Amphibious Firefighter Earns Type Certificate

The Chinese mainland’s AG600, the world’s largest civil amphibious aircraft by takeoff weight, has obtained its type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in Beijing. This approval clears the way for AVIC’s independent design to enter the market.

Developed under civil aviation airworthiness regulations, the AG600 is tailored for firefighting and emergency rescue missions. With a wingspan of 38.8 meters and a length of 38.9 meters, it even outmatches many single-aisle airliners in size.

AVIC, the Chinese mainland’s leading aircraft manufacturer, says this milestone demonstrates the growing capabilities of the civil aviation industry in large special-purpose planes. By filling a gap in the large-sized amphibious sector, the AG600 boosts the national emergency rescue system and enhances natural disaster response to protect lives and property.
