Snooker Shock: 21-Year-Old Lei Peifan Defeats Kyren Wilson 10-9

In a dramatic opener at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield, defending champion Kyren Wilson was edged out 10-9 by the Chinese mainland's debutant Lei Peifan. Although the world No.2 led 6-3 after the morning session, Lei, ranked 39th and just 21 years old, mounted a stunning comeback in the evening.

Lei captured six consecutive frames to turn the tide, forcing a 9-9 decider after Wilson rallied late in the match. In the final frame, Lei remained composed under pressure, sealing victory with an 80-14 clearance.

'It feels amazing. The Scottish Open was my first title and this was my Crucible debut. Both moments are very special to me,' said Lei, recalling his first ranking title at last December's Scottish Open.

Wilson acknowledged the challenge: 'It’s tough to lose after leading but credit to Lei—he played brilliantly under pressure.'

Next up for Lei is the winner of the match between the Chinese mainland's Zhao Xintong and Wales’s Jak Jones. As the tournament unfolds, snooker fans worldwide will be watching to see if this rookie sensation continues his dream run.
