In a milestone celebration of cultural exchange, the 5th CMG Chinese Language Video Festival took center stage at the UN office in Geneva on Tuesday. Coinciding with the 2025 United Nations Chinese Language Day, the event showcased the growing international appeal of the Chinese language and its rich cultural heritage.
Addressing the audience via video link, Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and CMG president, highlighted how Chinese stories are captivating more foreign viewers and fostering a deeper global connection. He stressed that China's development is intertwined with the world's progress, expressing hope that the festival will inspire more international friends to explore opportunities in China.
Tatiana Valovaya, director-general of the UN office in Geneva, emphasized that Chinese, one of the world’s oldest and most influential languages, serves as a vibrant bridge for exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. She called on global communities to honor cultural diversity and work together for a brighter future.
Adding to the celebration, Chen Xu, permanent representative of China to the UN office in Geneva, noted that the annual Chinese Language Day not only underscores the importance the UN places on the Chinese language and culture, but also reinforces its commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue.
With more than 300 guests from around 50 countries, including representatives from Russia, Serbia, Pakistan, Qatar, and Cameroon, the festival provided a dynamic platform for diplomats, cultural influencers, and thought leaders. In an era defined by digital innovation and global connectivity, events like this invite young global citizens, business innovators, and digital nomads to discover, learn, and collaborate in building a more interconnected world.
