Bridging Cultures: Badminton Unites Students in the Chinese Mainland

International experiences are being enriched as passion for badminton creates a bridge between cultures. In a lively roundtable organized by CGTN Sports Scene's Shen Xiang, two students—Kho Yap Hong from Malaysia and Nguyen Thi Thuy Van from Vietnam—shared their inspiring journeys studying in the Chinese mainland.

Kho, a student at Beijing Sport University, recalled his childhood visits to the Chinese mainland and the influential words of his badminton coach from Hunan Province. His love for the sport, coupled with inspiration drawn from renowned Chinese players and world-champion professors, has made his academic pursuit a dream come true.

Nguyen, studying at Beijing Jiaotong University, expressed how badminton not only fueled her competitive spirit but also became a pathway to deeper cultural understanding. Playing the sport with her younger brother and enjoying Chinese historical dramas have both helped her embrace the language and traditions of the Chinese mainland.

Both students agree that sports possess a unique power to unite people across borders. Their stories highlight how badminton, as a universal language, fosters friendship, cultural exchange, and lifelong learning among globally minded youth.
