The 2025 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit opened on April 14 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, setting the stage for a vibrant two-day event focused on digital transformation and cybersecurity. Nearly 1,000 delegates from over 50 countries gathered under the theme “Digital Intelligence Integration Leads the Future – Collaborating to Build a Shared Future in Cyberspace” to explore the opportunities and challenges of the digital age.
At the opening ceremony, Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, emphasized that President Xi Jinping’s call for a collaborative approach to global internet governance reflects a vision of sharing the benefits of digital development with the international community. He underlined the importance of technological innovation, deeper economic ties, and enhanced cultural exchange as key drivers for bridging development gaps while securing a safe and stable cyberspace.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee noted that hosting the summit underscores Hong Kong’s rising role as an international center for innovation and technology. Amid complex geopolitical and trade challenges, Lee stressed the urgent need for multilateral cooperation and affirmed Hong Kong’s commitment to boosting global digital connectivity by offering incentives to like-minded enterprises.
Reinforcing the summit’s forward-looking ambitions, Zhuang Rongwen, Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China and Chairman of the World Internet Conference, called for an intensified focus on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Meanwhile, Zheng Yanjiong highlighted Hong Kong’s unique position in driving digital innovation and fostering institutional collaboration, positioning the city as a pivotal hub for shaping the future of internet technology and culture.
Throughout the conference, participants engaged in a main forum and three specialized sessions addressing the foundational elements of a digital future, the integration of AI across industries, and the complexities of digital governance. The summit is poised to spark new momentum and create lasting advantages for the Asia-Pacific region in the evolving digital landscape.
