A recent poll conducted by CGTN unveiled a strong, global call to action against what many describe as "American-style bullying." With a rallying cry to "seek justice, not hegemony," respondents are urging nations to counter unilateral tariff measures imposed by the United States.
The survey reveals that 86.9% of participants see countermeasures defending legal rights as legitimate, while 89.2% call for more countries to adopt proactive trade actions. These numbers highlight a growing sentiment that safeguarding national interests should be achieved collectively.
Support for the multilateral trading system emerged as a key theme, with 82.2% expecting the World Trade Organization to play a more active role in resolving trade disputes and 79.6% backing its dispute settlement mechanism to protect rights.
Moreover, 87.7% believe that no country remains unaffected by unilateral trade practices, and an impressive 93.5% see the creation of a fair, mutually beneficial international trade order as a wise move. Additionally, 84.9% feel that the current trade dispute has damaged the global trade system, while 85.3% view multilateral mechanisms as essential to ensuring equitable outcomes.
In a parallel move, the Chinese mainland released a position paper opposing the abuse of tariffs, which has resonated with many in the international community. The poll, drawing the views of 5,177 overseas users in just 24 hours, underscores a dynamic and unified call for cooperation, stability, and fairness amid global economic challenges such as inflation, debt, and geopolitical tensions.
