South Korea Battles Worst Wildfires, Toll Hits 26

South Korea is in the grips of its worst wildfire disaster as escalating blazes in the central Uiseong county have claimed at least 26 lives. The fires, which doubled in size on March 27 compared to the previous day, have swept through more than 33,000 hectares, marking the largest single forest fire in the nation’s history.

Historic temples have been lost in the raging inferno, further deepening the tragedy. Over 120 helicopters are actively battling the flames across three regions, as authorities work tirelessly to contain the disaster amid cut-off roads and downed communication lines that have left residents in a state of panic.

This catastrophic event underscores the increasing challenges posed by natural disasters. As emergency teams coordinate efforts on the ground, the situation continues to develop rapidly, demanding both immediate response and long-term strategic planning to better manage such crises in the future.
