Amid the sweltering summer heat, dozens of young poets from BRICS countries gathered at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Beijing on Tuesday, united by their shared love of poetry.
The first International Youth Poetry Festival's Special Session for BRICS Countries is underway from July 19 to 24 in Hangzhou City and Beijing. This vibrant event brings together 49 poets from Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Ethiopia, alongside 23 Chinese poets.
During their visit to the iconic Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, the poets shared their passion by reading original poems in their native languages, creating a tapestry of diverse voices and cultural expressions.
Shi Zhanjun, a party group member and secretary of the Secretariat of the China Writers Association (CWA), attended the festival and delivered an inspiring speech. Highlighting the historical significance of the Great Wall, Shi emphasized the uniqueness of this gathering, noting it as the first time young poets from around the world have convened at this monumental site.
\"These young poets have built a beautiful channel for civilization exchanges and mutual learning through poetry and their youth, and built a 'Great Wall of Poetry' that will always be remembered,\" Shi remarked.
The festival's mission is to foster friendship through poetry and promote cultural exchange among young individuals from diverse backgrounds, according to the CWA. By providing a platform for creative expression and dialogue, the festival aims to strengthen global connections and inspire the next generation of poets and cultural ambassadors.
