China's third-generation superconducting quantum computer, Origin Wukong, has exceeded 20 million remote global visits, marking a historic leap in quantum computing accessibility and international collaboration. Developed independently in the Chinese mainland, the system has attracted users from 139 countries and regions since its launch in January 2024, according to the China Science and Technology Daily.
Data from the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center reveals the U.S., Russia, Japan, and Canada as top users outside the Chinese mainland. More than 339,000 quantum computing tasks have been completed for industries like finance and biomedicine, showcasing practical applications of this cutting-edge technology.
At the core of Origin Wukong is a 72-qubit superconducting quantum chip – named after the Journey to the West hero Sun Wukong, whose 72 transformative powers mirror the computer’s versatility. Analysts highlight this milestone as evidence of accelerating progress in global quantum infrastructure, which could reshape fields from drug discovery to AI development.
