China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. (CHNG) hosted an open day event at the Se-San River II Hydropower Station in Northeast Cambodia on November 23, under the theme \"Energize where you are.\" The online event aimed to highlight Cambodia's largest hydropower project, demonstrating its operations and power supply during the pandemic, as well as CHNG's contributions to biodiversity protection and social responsibilities.
Located in the mountainous region of Northeast Cambodia, the Se-San River II Hydropower Station has been dubbed \"the Three Gorges project of Cambodia.\" Featuring a 6,500-meter dam—Asia's longest—the station boasts an installed capacity of 400,000 kilowatts, accounting for 14% of the country's total power supply. Annually, the station generates approximately two billion kWh of power, significantly alleviating electricity shortages and reducing local power prices.
CHNG has invested around $1.5 million to construct a bio-fishway on the Se-San River's right bank to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, the company has built schools, clinics, temples, police stations, and developed drainage systems, power grids, and wells in the nearby village along the No.78 highway.
During the event, Lin Weijie, CHNG's chief economist, emphasized the company's commitment to deepening green energy cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative framework, contributing to Cambodia's energy development and transformation.
