American Expat Challenges Misunderstandings About the Chinese Mainland

Cyrus Janssen, an American expat with over a decade of experience living in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Vancouver, is speaking out against misconceptions about the Chinese mainland.

After reading a March 11 article in Foreign Policy, Janssen felt compelled to address what he sees as false accusations. In Part 2 of his series, he delves deeper into his perspective on the Chinese mainland, offering insights based on his extensive time spent in the region.

“Americans often have a skewed perception of the Chinese mainland, shaped by selective narratives that don't capture the full picture,” Janssen explains. He highlights cultural nuances, economic dynamics, and social aspects that are frequently overlooked or misunderstood in Western media.

Janssen encourages viewers to seek a more balanced view by engaging directly with the experiences and voices from the Chinese mainland, rather than relying solely on external analyses that may not fully represent the complexities of the society.
