China Eastern Airlines has marked a significant milestone in aviation by deploying China's domestically produced C919 jetliner for regular flights between Shanghai and Hong Kong. This launch makes the airline the first to operate scheduled commercial flights to Hong Kong using the C919 aircraft.
With an impressive order of 105 C919 jets, China Eastern holds the largest C919 fleet globally. Hong Kong represents the ninth city to be served by the C919 on regular commercial routes. The airline plans to offer daily round-trip flights, enhancing connectivity between these major economic hubs.
The C919, China's first self-developed trunk jetliner, complies with international airworthiness standards and boasts independent intellectual property rights. Since its inaugural commercial flight from Shanghai to Beijing in May 2023, the C919 has firmly established its presence in the civil aviation market. The aircraft project, initiated in 2007 by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd., saw its first unit completed in Shanghai in November 2015.
This development not only signifies advancements in China's aerospace industry but also offers more efficient and modern options for travelers between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
