China has unveiled a significant update to its nationwide train timetable, introducing hundreds of new passenger and freight trains to its already expansive railway network. This move, which became effective at midnight on Sunday, is designed to enhance passenger convenience, increase freight capacity, and further integrate the country's regional economies.
The latest schedule includes 230 additional passenger trains, bringing the total number of passenger services to an impressive 13,028. On the freight side, 91 new trains have been added, raising the total to 22,859. These additions are expected to alleviate congestion on busy routes and provide more options for travelers and businesses alike.
A standout feature of this expansion is the enhancement of cross-border services on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway. The number of daily cross-border high-speed trains has surged to 242, marking a substantial increase. For the first time, direct train services will link Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station with destinations in China's west and north regions. This development is set to facilitate smoother travel and stronger business connections between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, fostering greater economic collaboration.
