According to a health official, the sudden and intense downpour forced visitors to evacuate their hotels, navigating knee-high muddy waters. The city's bustling center saw many shops temporarily close as waters continued to rise rapidly.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, two elephants also lost their lives in the deluge. The sanctuary north of Chiang Mai reported the unfortunate drowning of these majestic animals as floodwaters surged uncontrollably.
