Memorial Service Honors 126 Earthquake Victims in Xizang

A heartfelt memorial service was held on Monday in Chamco Township, Dingri County, within the Xizang Autonomous Region, to mourn the victims of the devastating magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck on January 7.

The tragic quake, which struck southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, claimed the lives of 126 people and left approximately 61,500 individuals affected, with over 27,000 houses damaged or destroyed.

The memorial gathered hundreds of attendees, including dedicated rescue workers, government officials, and local residents deeply impacted by the disaster. In a solemn display of unity and remembrance, participants removed their hats and stood in silence for three minutes, honoring those who lost their lives.

The earthquake struck Dingri County, home to the northern base camp of Mount Qomolangma, the world's highest peak. The disaster's impact has been profound, disrupting communities and highlighting the resilience of those affected as they begin the path to recovery.
