Hong Kong Passes Landmark National Security Bill

The Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) made a pivotal move on March 19 by passing the safeguarding national security bill. This legislation represents a major step in the HKSAR's commitment to fulfilling its constitutional duties as outlined in Article 23 of the HKSAR Basic Law.

Henry Tang Ying-yen, the former chief secretary of the HKSAR government, lauded the bill as a robust barrier against attempts to compromise national security. Tang emphasized that the legislation is essential for maintaining stability and protecting the region from potential threats.

The passage of this bill highlights Hong Kong's dedication to upholding its legal frameworks and ensuring the safety and security of its residents. As Hong Kong continues to play a significant role on the global stage, such measures are crucial in safeguarding its autonomy and promoting a secure environment for both residents and businesses.
