Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that China is committed to advancing its comprehensive strategic partnership with Peru during talks in Beijing with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra. This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations, with Peru being one of the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic relations and a comprehensive strategic partnership with China. Additionally, Peru holds the distinction of being the first Latin American nation to sign free trade agreements with the People’s Republic of China.
Xi emphasized the pivotal role Chinese businesses play in Peru’s economic growth, contributing to major cooperation projects that have enhanced livelihoods. He highlighted China’s dedication to consolidating mutual political trust, deepening practical cooperation, and promoting cultural exchanges to elevate the strategic partnership to new heights.
The discussions also focused on expanding cooperation in sectors such as minerals, energy, manufacturing, and agriculture, alongside emerging areas like new energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and digital healthcare. A key initiative is the completion of the Chancay Port project, a major Belt and Road cooperation effort, which aims to establish a new land and sea corridor between China and Latin America, fostering prosperity and common development.
Xi underscored the importance of Peru hosting the 2024 APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting, expressing support for the successful outcomes of this event.
