Xi Jinping Outlines CPC’s Vision for China’s Modernization

On Monday, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, will publish an article detailing the CPC's missions and tasks as the party celebrates its 103rd founding anniversary.

The article will appear in the 13th issue of the Qiushi Journal, the flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee. This publication is part of Xi's report delivered to the 20th National Congress of the CPC on October 16, 2022.

Xi emphasized that the central task of the CPC is to lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in realizing the Second Centenary Goal: building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a uniquely Chinese path to modernization.

Drawing on decades of exploration and practice since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, especially since the initiation of reform and opening up in 1978, and the new breakthroughs achieved since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the party has successfully advanced Chinese modernization.

Chinese modernization, as described, is a socialist approach led by the CPC. It shares common elements with modernization processes worldwide but is distinguished by its focus on a large population, achieving common prosperity for all, advancing material and cultural-ethical standards, promoting harmony between humanity and nature, and ensuring peaceful development.

The article outlines the essential requirements for Chinese modernization, which include upholding CPC leadership and socialism with Chinese characteristics, pursuing high-quality development, developing whole-process people's democracy, enriching cultural lives, achieving common prosperity, promoting harmony between humanity and nature, building a human community with a shared future, and creating a new form of human advancement.

To realize the goal of building a great modern socialist country, China has adopted a two-step strategic plan: achieving socialist modernization from 2020 to 2035, and transforming China into a prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful modern socialist country by the middle of this century.

Recognizing the challenges ahead, the article states, \"Our future is bright, but we still have a long way to go.\" It underscores the importance of adhering to major principles such as strengthening the Party's leadership, following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, maintaining a people-centered development philosophy, deepening reform and opening up, and fostering a fighting spirit.

Xi concluded by expressing confidence in the CPC's ability to rejuvenate the Chinese nation, while acknowledging the need for continued effort and determination to achieve these ambitious goals.
