SCO Drives Digital Transformation with New City Modeling and Tech Alliances

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), recognized as the world's largest regional organization by geographic scope and population, is spearheading a digital revolution across Eurasia. With key members like China, Russia, and India, the SCO is fostering sci-tech exchanges that pave the way for a connected and innovative future.

In June, the SCO took a significant step by establishing a new alliance focused on City Information Modeling (CIM). This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize how cities are planned, designed, constructed, and managed. Jointly founded by 11 Chinese institutions, including the China Academy of Building Research and Tsinghua University, the alliance is set to deliver comprehensive CIM technology to all SCO members.

Adopting the Chinese approach to infrastructure, which has led to remarkable global projects, cities within the SCO are now equipped for intelligent and precise management through technological innovations like digital twins. Li Gang, deputy secretary of the SCO Demonstration Zone Party Committee in Qingdao City, emphasized, \"We will leverage tech innovations like digital twin to manage cities digitally, intelligently and precisely.\"

Qingdao, a vital hub for trade among SCO members, is experiencing an influx of shared technologies along major trade routes. In May, the city also hosted the formation of another alliance dedicated to industrial digitalization, promoting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) based on large data models across SCO members. This alliance boasts 83 initial members, including major players like China Mobile, Huawei, and Haier Cosmoplat.

Expanding its digital footprint, the SCO established the Digital Technology Platform (DTP) in September 2023. This platform serves as a comprehensive cooperation mechanism, encouraging the adoption of digital technologies among members. E-commerce giants such as Xiaomi, JD.com, and Lenovo have joined the DTP, committing to advance the digitalization of the Belt and Road regions by sharing best practices in AI, big data, blockchain, and cloud computing.

The SCO's unwavering commitment to digital transformation not only embraces technological advancements but also empowers its members to thrive in an interconnected world. Through initiatives like the CIM alliance and the DTP, the SCO is laying the groundwork for a sustainable and innovative future across Eurasia.
