South Korea’s Jang Sung-woo Clinches Gold at Asian Winter Games, Eyes Beijing Championships

South Korean short track speed skater Jang Sung-woo claimed victory in the men's 1,000-meter event at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, on Sunday. The triumph adds to his growing reputation as a top contender in international ice sports.

In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene, Jang praised Harbin's vibrant winter sports culture, calling the host city's chilly climate ideal for competition. 'I really enjoyed competing here—the energy from fans and the quality of the ice made it unforgettable,' he said.

The champion's sights are now set on the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Beijing this March, followed by a potential appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. 'Every competition is a chance to push my limits,' Jang remarked, highlighting his ambitious roadmap in the lead-up to 2026.
